Two of a kind

These pelicans were photographed late afternoon at Verlorenvlei on the West Coast. What facinated me was how they appeared to always be doing the same things at exactly the same time … turning their heads, changing direction, ‘smiling’ at the camera. I wonder whether it is common behaviour for all pelicans? The picture was taken on 25 September 2008.
